Belmont School and Mill Hill School Parents’ Forum: PSHRE/Drugs Education

Around 200 pupils and parents from the final two years at Belmont (Years 7 and 8) and the first year at Mill Hill (4th Form) attended the event in The Large on Thursday 30th April. Head of Belmont, Mrs Lynn Duncan welcomed the audience and explained the importance both schools place on this area of their PSHRE programmes. Presentations included:

  • Pupils from all three year groups shared role plays, poems and facts and figures on what they learn in PSHRE;
  • Tanya Lisak from “Barnet IMPACT” talked about the realities confronting young people today and gave parents some useful pieces of advice;
  • Acting Detective Inspector Andy Welch (a parent of children at both schools and a School Governor) and Sergeant Marco Bardetti offered a hard-edged and contemporary police perspective on modern-day society.

After a Question and Answer session from suggestions by parents and pupils, the evening closed with some final remarks by Mill Hill School’s Headmaster, Dr Dominic Luckett about the continued commitment across the Mill Hill School Foundation to deal with this issue as sensitively and appropriately as we can and to keep our pupils well educated and informed about this area of modern life.
