Mill Hill Junior Tennis Open

Now in our sixth year, the successful Mill Hill Junior Open Tennis Competition invites pupils from twelve of our feeder schools to compete at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn This year we were particularly delighted to welcome Lochinver School, the first time they have competed in the event.

Designed for Under 11s, Years 5 & 6, the tournament attracted more than 50 pupils who enjoyed a full day of tennis including both competition and fun coaching drills. Luckily the weather was kind to us.

The boys’ competition was won for the second year in a row by the talented Andrew Rozanov (St Anthony’s). He had to overcome his younger brother, Leo, in a tense Quarter Final match but he played convincing tennis to win 4-1. He then beat Sam Oliver (Edge Grove) in the Semi Final before outplaying UCS pupil Alex Zuckerman 4-0 in the final.

The girls’ competition was once again an all-Belmontian final between Olivia Gurney-Randall (last years’ losing finalist) and Caitlin Barr. Olivia out-rallied her opponent with some steady but powerful ground strokes, eventually winning 4-1.

To add to the excitement of the day, the girls also played a mini doubles competition which again was won by a Belmontian pair, Olivia Gurney-Randall and Ella Harvey. A coaching clinic for the boys and girls who did not reach the knock-out stages was also run in the afternoon. Trophies and prizes to all the finalists were presented at the end of the day.

In the past, UK ranked player Tara Moore and British Davis Cup players Arvin Parmar and Jamie Delgado have all supported this event.
