Cricket Success

Our 1st XI have just been crowned Middlesex Champions with an awesome team performance that saw us beat the previously undefeated team of St Benedicts, Ealing.

It was a great team effort, typified perhaps by Nick Schild who stood in at late notice as wicket keeper for Harry Symonds.

Having not started too well with several half chances not being taken, we managed to keep our nerve and with an inspired bowling change, Will Harley came on as the sixth bowler to turn the match on its head. In an extraordinary turn around we managed to take 7 wickets for 5 runs. At one stage they were 115-3 but their final score was all out for 120. Joseph Wray took 4 wickets and St Benedicts were all out in the 27th over having not used up their allotted 35 overs.

The team never fell behind the rate with Benedict Relf taking full responsibility for the team having made a very determined 46, but it was Oli Avent 35* who saw us home in triumphant style with 3 balls to spare.

This win comes off the back of their recent success against Merchant Taylors’. In this match, the opposition batted first and were soon in trouble from some very disciplined bowling from James Kilbourn and Joseph Wray. However when Jonathan Ellis came on to bowl, he totally destroyed their middle order taking 6 wickets for 9 runs in 5 overs.

Merchant Taylors’ were all out for 73.

Benedict Relf and William Harley quickly knocked the runs off leaving us with an impressive 9 wicket win.

This was their third win in the last 4 days – a great week for Mill Hill School cricket.
