Upcycled Fashion

As part of our Green Fortnight activities, a number of pupils had a chance to ‘up-cycle’ some old clothes and give them a new lease of life. We were joined by Sarah Klymkiw from TRAID who presented a talk on clothes recycling and in a further session demonstrated to the children how clothes are ‘up-cycled’ and resold by TRAID. TRAID has 10 shops located in London stocking high quality secondhand, vintage and designer clothes, shoes and accessories. Their shops in Brixton, Camden, Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush also stock TRAID’s up-cycled fashion label TRAIDremade.

Garments at the fashion show ranged from scarves made from jumper sleeves, jeans made in to shorts and a school shirt made into a halter neck top to name a few. The children had their time on the cat walk at the Cross Foundation Fashion Show held at Mill Hill School. Sara P and Hannah B received prizes for their efforts. Sara made a denim skirt from a pair of jeans and a beautiful blouse and one of Hannah’s best creations was a bag made from an old sweatshirt.

A fantastic event. Well done to everyone who took part!
