Foundation Day 2015

Our annual celebration of the School was bathed in glorious sunshine and widely acknowledged as a particularly uplifting and enjoyable occasion.

The day began with a Service of Commemoration of Benefactors in the Chapel, followed by the Speeches and Prize Giving ceremony with our Guest of Honour, Dame Fiona Reynolds, DBE, presenting the prizes and addressing the audience of governors, parents, pupils, staff and guests. For the first time we were also joined by pupils and staff from The Mount, Mill Hill International, the Foundation’s fourth School which opened this term. We then enjoyed a splendid barbecue on the Quad and the spectacle of the CCF Corps of Drums and 1st XV rugby on Top Field against The Leys. In addition to our other visitors, over 100 Old Millhillians gathered on the Headmaster’s lawn, making the occasion a double celebration.

There was a moving and fortuitous connection between the keynotes of Dame Fiona’s address and that of the Senior Monitors, Ted MacDonald and Alice Lloyd Davies, whose inspiring and beautifully presented votes of thanks can be read here.

Dame Fiona, the first female Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, was well placed to congratulate Mrs Frances King on her appointment as CEO of the Mill Hill School Foundation and Head of Mill Hill School from January. Dr Roger Chapman, Chairman of the Court of Governors, noted that this was Dr Luckett’s final Foundation Day as Headmaster before he moves on to take up his post as Headmaster and CEO of Sherborne School at the end of this term. Dr Chapman paid tribute to his vision and leadership over the past eight years and to the great progress which the Foundation Schools have achieved in that time, not least in terms of academic success.
