Upper 6th Form Curriculum

A2 Drama and Theatre Studies

Syllabus Followed: Edexcel

The A2 course in Drama and Theatre Studies builds upon the skills learnt and examined at AS Level and extends your experience of the subject through three further units of study. You should be committed to theatre and be prepared to put in the extra time and effort required to work in a group and as an individual in diverse situations.

Unit 4: Devising (20% of the total A Level)
A presentation of a group written piece of drama, internally assessed and externally moderated. This is based on criteria set by the teacher, who marks both the creative process and the performance.
Unit 5: Text in Performance 2 (15% of the total A Level)
A workshop presentation of a student-directed play. This involves working as a director, actor or designer on a scene or scene from a play that has been studied in depth. It is assessed by a visiting examiner.
Unit 6: Text in Context 2 (15% of the total A Level)
Section A is based on a director’s approach to a play set by the examining board.
Section B is based on performance analysis and research on a play written between 1575 and 1720. Productions of the play are seen and researched.

It is essential that those wishing to take this A2 course are willing and able to work as responsible members of a group, as the work of all of the members of the group is affected by each person’s role within that group.
