A2 Information and Communication Technology
Syllabus Followed: AQA Information and Communication Technology
The A2 course builds on the topics taught in the AS course, specifically the practical aspects of managing information systems within organisations. In addition, there is a major project that will involve the candidates designing an information system for a real organisation. This can either be arranged by the pupil or through the ICT Department.
The examination structure of the A2 course in Information and Communication Technology is as follows:
- Unit 4: Information Systems within Organisations
- Assessment: 2 hr written paper worth 15% of the total marks for A Level
Areas covered include Management Information Systems, management of change, disaster recovery management, user support and codes of conduct.
- Unit 5: Information: Policy, Strategy and Systems
- Assessment: 2 hr written paper worth 15% of the total marks for A Level
This is a synoptic paper that draws together all the work from the previous units.
- Unit 6: Coursework
- 20% of the total marks for A Level
The project will require the pupils to identify and research a problem for which there is a real end-user. The problem will be of a substantial nature and is intended to integrate the various skills and concepts developed during the course.
