Old Millhillian Richard Dimbleby was the first and one of the most influential of a new generation of media personalities – the television journalist. In the years 1950-65 he commentated on the most important world events, including the coronation of 1953. When Dimbleby passed away in 1965 Huw Wheldon, Controller of Television Programmes at the BBC, described him as “ the voice of our generation…he is irreplaceable”.
