Spanish Trip to Barcelona

At the end of the spring term 2007 we went to Barcelona.

Mr Duran led us on the early stressful coach journey to the airport with everybody tired and grumpy, but we made it and after check in and a wait in departures we boarded the plane.

On the plane there was a lot of changing of seats but it was an otherwise uneventful flight to Barcelona airport. When we arrived at the airport we had a few problems: first we went to the wrong baggage reclaim and had to exit and re-enter the airport and when we finally got to the right place, two people had had their luggage misplaced by the airline!

This meant our planned trip to Camp Nou (the Barcelona football club stadium) had to be rescheduled. Everybody was a bit sad but we went to the youth hostel where we were staying, unpacked our bags, changed and went to dinner, which was lovely.

The next day went rather well, we visited some fabulous places, did some shopping, with some of our group spending nearly all their money and we finished the day with another great meal in the centre of the town. We returned to the hostel and before going to bed, wrote up our diaries for the past two days.

Our third day started with breakfast at the hostel; cereals, toast and tea or coffee, a good start to the day.

More sightseeing; we visited more of the outstanding sites seeing the unique Spanish architecture. As on previous evenings we finished the day with dinner, on this occasion at a fish restaurant. I had calamari for the starter and then traditional fish paella for the main course; it was the perfect end to the day.

On our final morning we left the hostel and walked to a café for a traditional Spanish breakfast, a delicacy which was churros and hot chocolate. The churros, similar to doughnuts, were really sweet and the hot chocolate was made from pure chocolate, nothing like the hot chocolate that we get in England, it really ‘put the icing on the cake’.

Unfortunately our trip was at an end and we returned to the airport, our flight and back to Mill Hill School.
