The Mill Hill Observatory

The Mill Hill Observatory

The Mill Hill Observatory – part of UCL – is a close neighbour of ours. The Observatory provides facilities for undergraduate teaching in practical astronomy and supports research in interstellar physics, star and planet formation theory, geological surveying of planetary surfaces and cosmic abundance studies. While the Mill Hill site is now unsuitable for modern research observations of faint astronomical objects (these are now obtained at the UK national facilities or at appropriate foreign observatories or by remote controlled telescopes on board satellites in Earth orbit) the Observatory remains conveniently placed for student access from University College and its wide range of equipment provides a superb teaching environment for astronomical practical work.
