What is Dyspraxia?

Imagine you have arranged to go swimming with some friends, but have forgotten your swimming equipment. Heading for home in a hurry, you try to open the front door but keep dropping the key or putting it in the wrong way up. When you get in you run upstairs, miss a stair and fall. You have already had one fall today because you cannot tie your shoelaces properly. Eventually you reach your room but cannot find a towel because everything is so disorganised. You then remember that you have left your swimming trunks at the pool, a regular occurrence. Looking at the clock, you realise that half an hour has passed rather than the five minutes you anticipated.

At the pool you have to make a conscious decision about which foot to put first on the escalator. This holds everyone up. Trying to get to the changing rooms you push other people out of the way without realising it. The swim is enjoyable but poor body coordination results in an inefficient swimming style. After swimming, everyone is dressed before you are, you have left your t-shirt off and lost a sock. You decide not to get anything from the café as that means balancing things on a tray, and you know you will spill or drop what you have bought.

Through its LDD policy, Mill Hill is committed to help pupils realise their full potential both in and outside of class.
