Patricia Wakaimba

Mill Hill Life...

Senior Monitors Patricia Wakaimba and Adam Beckman have responsibilities over and above those of all the other School prefects and heads of Houses. Time is split between School events, functions and tours for prospective pupils and parents. All of this is in addition to the academic work and the many School activities they are involved in.

Patricia arrived at Mill Hill in 2002 direct from her home in Nairobi, Kenya. “I came to Mill Hill School as a scared and lonely 13-year-old. But Collinson House soon changed all that. Being in a boarding house helps you feel more at home and accustomed to everything far more quickly. It was wonderful when my father came from Kenya to watch my speech on Foundation Day. He was so impressed by all he saw on the day and I was proud to be able to show him the School that has become my home.”

The 2006 Nicaragua project taught Patricia the value of experiencing different cultures. “Seeing the two different worlds makes you appreciate more what you have at home. We spent a lot of time with children who have special needs. If it weren’t for Mill Hill School, I would never have had an opportunity like this.”

A talented artist, Patricia has creative ambitions. “It was a recent trip to the art galleries of New York that convinced me that art was the career for me.” Her work will feature in the forthcoming Art Exhibition at the Artsdepot in January 2007. Her plans are to study Art at University next year; at the moment she is particularly keen on Central St Martin’s.

Both Patricia and Adam are Flight Sergeants in the RAF section of the School Combined Cadet Force. They both regularly attend camps and are currently undergoing pilot training. Adam’s brother Duncan (MHS 1999 - 2003) received his wings whilst a Mill Hill cadet three years ago.

They both agree that CCF allows you to learn teamwork and leadership skills in an enjoyable environment. This certainly helped both in their roles as Senior Monitors.
