Mill Hill Junior Tennis Open
For the past three years we have organised the successful Mill Hill Junior Open Tennis Competition at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn. Year 5 and 6 pupils from 12 of our feeder schools compete in the tournament designed for Under-11s.
The third annual competition attracted more than 60 pupils, and once again it was a full day of tennis with both competition and fun drills for the children.
The boys’ competition was won by the talented James Vogel from St Martin's School Northwood. James who trains at the Riverside Esporta Club beat Liam Kelly, St Anthony’s, 6-1 in the final.
For the last two years the girls’ competition has been won by Belmont pupils – however this year the champion was up-and-coming star, Lucy Booth from Newberries School. Lucy, who currently trains at Batchwood Tennis Centre, beat Naoimi Labrom, 6-1 from Northbridge House School.
To add to the excitement of the day, 18 year old local player George Coupland (who has just earned his first point on the professional tennis tour series) presented the trophies and prizes and also organised some fun competitive games on court for all the participants. We're very grateful to George who is the latest professional player to support the event – in previous years we’ve welcomed British Davis Cup players Arvin Parmar and Jamie Delgado.
