European Week of Languages

Flags

This is the 6th year that the Modern Foreign Languages at Mill Hill School runs the “European Week of Languages” to celebrate the “European Day of Languages”.

The European Day of Languages, a Council of Europe initiative, is held annually on the 26th September to celebrate language and cultural diversity. The Day was first celebrated in 2001, the European Year of Languages, and is now celebrated throughout the UK and in a further 45 countries across Europe.

At Mill Hill, various events are held throughout the week to mark the occasion. These events take place at lunch time and/or after school. This year we have put together a programme which includes:

  • A European Quiz for 5th and 6th form which tests your knowledge of Europe
  • A European Treasure Hunt for the 4th form which takes you across different European countries
  • Guess the language Competition, for all – not as easy as you may think!
  • The screening of European films (in the original language with subtitles) for all
  • A European song contest – to get your vocal cords going- for all
  • A continental breakfast for 6th form linguists – try different culinary delights!

See the school calendar and the Modern Language Department for more details.
