Children at Belmont get to experience and use a wide range of different materials and look at artwork from around the world. This sample of recent Year 5 work is based on Tibetan prayer flag designs. Prayer flags are colourful panels of cloth often found strung along mountain ridges in the Himalayas; they are used to bless the surrounding countryside. Prayer flags depict mythical creatures that symbolise sacred qualities and attitudes. The children investigated prayer flags, used a printing press process to create the images of animals and then used batik to pattern the remaining areas of their flags. This particular piece of work was produced by Nikita, Georgia and Lucinda in 5SR.
