This week in Year 2…

We hope you enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and made the most of the glorious sunshine.  The children returned to school on Tuesday with excitement to continue our learning on our key text ‘The Pea and the Princess’.  This week we focused on the ‘storm’ pages in the book and the children were encouraged to use powerful verbs and questions.  Children either wrote a description of the storm or a poem with questions, growing in intensity with each line. They learnt about personification and how poets often use this to emphasise meaning or to give the reader a reference to compare to.

In Art the children developed their observational skills. They chopped different vegetables in half and looked closely at the patterns, colours and textures. They used pencil and pastels to recreate what they could see.

Our Maths work this week has been linked to our work in Topic and Science. The children have been learning a range of strategies to use when multiplying and have thought carefully about arrays in the context of carrot patches and garden allotments. On Friday children were challenged to create a vegetable patch by arranging vegetables in arrays and recording the number sentences.
