This week, Grimsdell had the pleasure of watching 1TP’s class assembly ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ where the children retold us the story and performed their own ‘boots’ song. Year One also received a small pair of boots with a new story called ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’. As we were reading, we noticed that the author used a wide range of vocabulary to describe the special shoes and boots that the elves had made. We collected some of these words and wrote our own description of the special boots. The events in this traditional story also invited us to consider acts of kindness and gratitude and we finished the week by writing a ‘Thank You’ letter from the Elves to the Shoemaker and his wife for making them such lovely clothes.
Also this week, Year One have been busy practising their Nativity songs for next week’s shows and we also had our last Forest School session before Christmas where we built and lit a fire to make French Toast with cinnamon which was devoured in no time at all! Yum! Yum!
