This week in Nursery…

What a wonderful start to the spring term we have had. The children were all excited to return to school and couldn’t wait to share all their news from over the holiday.

When the children returned, they found out that our new topic was ‘On the move’, they also learnt that we had received a special postcard from our friend Stickman. He is on the move and has travelled to South Africa.

We discussed as a class what we knew about South Africa and what we wanted to learn more about. The children knew exactly what animals were in Africa and played some guessing games to learn more facts about them.

The role play area has been transformed into an aeroplane and the children have enjoyed becoming a pilot, cabin crew and passengers. They have been travelling to many wonderfully exotic destinations.

As part of phase one phonics, we practiced some rhyming this week. The children played a game where they had to find the matching rhyming words and we read some very funny stories and pointed out all the different rhymes. This is something you could also do at home when reading stories.

The children also had fun creating some wonderful African sunset pictures. We talked about hot and cold colours, and they only used hot colours to create the pictures. We also added African animal silhouettes to with the children choosing their favourite animal to add to the picture.
