Bon Voyage

Dear Parents

French Exchange

It has been another action-packed few days for the Belmont Community. On Thursday we wished our visitors from Rouen a bon voyage. The French Exchange with L’Institution Jean Paul II has been established now for 39 years and it is wonderful to see that it has never been more popular, with 42 families agreeing to host our neighbours from across La Manche. Thank you to all the parents for giving these children such a valuable experience. On departing, one of the French boys said to Mrs McRill  ‘je suis étudiant de Belmont School maintenant’ (Mrs McRill informs me that this is a positive comment). The Belmont community has clearly made a good impression on our visitors. I am sure that our children are really looking forward to a similar experience when they go to Rouen next half term. Thank you to Mrs McRill, Mrs Ellen and the French department for all the work that has gone into organising the exchange.

Ski Trip

We also wish the ski trip group a bon voyage as they depart for Claviere in Italy tomorrow. Thank you to Mr Spink for all his hard work in organising the trip. I hope all the pupils and teachers have a wonderful time.

Chess and sporting success

Last weekend our Football 1st and 2nd XI and our Netball A and B teams all competed against the touring Wycliffe College and all four teams had comfortable victories. In addition Angela Eyton, our Chess Club coach, held a national chess tournament at Belmont. It involved over 160 children including 40 Belmontian participants. It is fantastic that so many of our children were involved and took part in such an intensive day. A special well done to our Under 9 team who have qualified for the next round.

Townsend Warner History Prize

The results for this prestigious national prep schools history competition have just come in. Well done to all the children that had a go but particular congratulations to the following pupils who have qualified to sit paper 2. This is Belmont’s best ever result since we started entering the competition.

  • Arthur (8VR), Gillies (8JI), Jacob (8JC)
  • William (7GT), Max (7OM)

Headmaster’s Commends

  • Max (3EP) for some wonderful work on the Amazon dart frog.
  • Evie (4RA) for a brilliant mystical mountain.

Well done to both of them!

I hope you all have a wonderful half term with your families. For those of you that are going away; bon voyage!

Best wishes
