Dear Parents
I hope you have had a wonderful week and have had an opportunity to enjoy some of the beautiful weather. I know that many of you were lucky enough to make the most of the sunshine on Tuesday for Sports’ Day; it certainly was a day to remember. There were some brilliant individual performances with several school records being broken. More importantly, the children worked together and supported one another superbly in their houses and their sense of team spirit made me feel very proud to be Head of Belmont. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Hockley and all the PE team for organising this event but also all the staff involved from teachers, groundstaff and caterers who helped to make everything go so well. For me, Sports’ Day is one of the highlights of the year. Sammy in Year 7 filmed the event for us, in part using a drone. He then edited a short video along with Ruhan who added the music. I think it encapsulates what a wonderful event Sports’ Day is and how talented some of our children are!
The night before Sports’ Day we had the Y6 performance of ‘Starman’ that paid tribute to David Bowie. The audience were just blown away by the quality of what they saw on Monday evening. The acting, the magical singing, stunning choreography and the scripts written by Mrs Sulkin and Mrs Russo were clever and thought provoking. ‘Arrowhead’s’ version of Under Pressure was breath-taking and there may be another opportunity to hear our budding Year 6 rock stars next week. Congratulations to all of the children and teachers involved in putting on such a wonderful event together; you are all stars!
Yesterday evening we had a slightly earlier Summer Concert to allow families to get away for a rather dreary England football match. The concert was anything but dreary with some exceptional musical performances by soloists and groups. I would like to mention how good The Chamber Group and Orchestra sounded, under Mr Cucchiara they are going from strength to strength. We also had our first rap in a Belmont concert, written and performed by Noah (7AW), some impressive individual piano and drum performances and I was particularly impressed with Leyla in Year 7 who showed resilience in sticking to the task of singing James Brown’s ‘I Feel Good’ in spite of a microphone malfunction. Mr Warren and Mrs Perrin put on a great show and so many children are really enjoying and thriving in music.
Other highlights of the week include the school House General Knowledge Quiz today and the House Chess Competition yesterday. The picture below shows how much chess has taken off in school since its introduction on the House Carousel 2 years ago. Thanks to Mrs Eyton and Mr Norbury it is proving a huge success.
On Monday afternoon I also said thank you to the class representatives who have done a huge amount this year for the school and the Friends of Belmont. Their role is integral in helping to generate interest and support for school events and strengthening our community feel.
Year 8s have been busy working on their business enterprise projects this week and on Monday they will be selling the products that they have designed and marketed to parents. This year all proceeds will go to charity. Throughout the Post Common Entrance programme, our Year 8 students were able to take part in exciting volunteering initiatives and give back to the community. This was only possible with the help of Suzie Miller and her initiative Give Together.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Hopefully the staff and parent relations will still be cordial following next Tuesday’s staff v parent cricket match and the sun will continue to shine!
