Parent Volunteers Making a Difference

I just want to pay tribute to all of the volunteers who have helped to support the school in so many different ways this academic year. Last week we had several parents coming in to teach a variety of different languages. On Tuesday we had the induction afternoon for all of our new Year 7 pupils and it was wonderful to see so many existing parents warmly welcoming the new families. Yesterday we had 6 parents come to speak to our Year 8 pupils about their careers and Heidi Parfitt organised another successful Rooker Roberts Golf Tournament. Last but not least, on Saturday we had B-Fest!

What an event: it just gets bigger each year. One of my 7 year old twins said to me “Daddy, I’m not being rude but (this precedes a lot of her statements at the moment) this was the best B-Fest ever!”

I was blown away by the sheer scale of the event as well as the giant inflatable slide that made the back of my knees go weak watching my three daughters bouncing around at the top of it. A huge thank you to all of our parent volunteers for their support of this event, whether sponsoring, running a stall or just enjoying a kebab on the day. Special thanks of course go to Lucy Kaye, Dani Scott and Seema Shah, the FOB Co-Chairs, who worked tirelessly to make the event the huge success it was.  It has been an incredibly successful year for raising funds and I will reveal on Sports Day how well the FOB have done. The grand total for B-Fest is an astonishing £16,644. Thank you!

To sum it all up, a member of staff from another MHS Foundation School sent me a lovely email after she visited B-Fest with her husband, stating “..the Belmont parents did you proud, the sense of community on the day was palpable and a real credit to the School.”

Our parent volunteers play a huge part in making Belmont a special place, so thank you all. I look forward to thanking all of our current class reps at afternoon tea on Monday, 25th June.

Finally, I am incredibly grateful to Bambina Marcou, Meghna Chawla, Suki Dhanak, Jasmina Somaiya and Stella Constantinou for volunteering to lead the FOB next year. I look forward to our new FOB team continuing the great work in September with the support of all of our community.

A Busy Week for Lower School

Lower School have had a busy week. Year 3 gave a wonderful musical performance on Wednesday and they have taken part in the Egg Mobile competition this afternoon. Year 4 also had their musical performance yesterday. Sadly, I have had clashes with other important (yet much less fun) meetings so I have not been able to attend either of the musical performances, but the feedback from staff and parents is that both concerts were absolutely lovely. I look forward to the summer concert next Thursday. Year 5 also had their PGL trip up to Shrewsbury and Miss Sutherns reports that the children were brilliant for the whole 3 days, getting stuck into the challenging activities and behaving as model Belmontians. Thank you to Miss Sutherns for organising and to all the teachers (and a librarian) for taking care of the children.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Best wishes
