The end of an era…

Farewell to Common Entrance

I hope all of our families had a lovely half term: for our Year 8 pupils, a great deal of it would have been spent revising. Today we had Belmont’s final ever Common Entrance Exams. The Year 8s have worked exceptionally hard all week showing focus, determination and resilience to get through the challenging set of tests. Sitting up to four exams in one day, this Year 8 cohort have been as focused as I can remember. I hope that they enjoy a well-deserved rest in Cornwall next week as they have just been magnificent.

B-Fest 2018

Next Saturday will be B-Fest and this year our summer festival takes on a carnival theme. The Friends of Belmont have been working hard along with some of our Year 7 artists to paint the giant B-Fest graffiti murals that just look fantastic. Looking at the plan of the day, it looks to be the biggest B-Fest ever. Please keep donations such as bottles for the bottle tombola, cakes and raffle tickets coming in. To make it easier for everybody some of the FOB will be at the crossing at drop off time on Tuesday morning so parents or children can just hand over donations and raffle tickets and not have to worry about going into the office.

Activity and Languages Week

Thank you to Mr Fleet for all of his hard work for what promises to be an action-packed Activity Week for the children. Year 8 are off on their post-CE trip to Newquay, Year 7 are off to Ambleside and all other Year groups are involved in a huge range of exciting activities both in and out of school. A big thank you to Dani Scott for organising a number of parents to come into school and teach the Y3-5 pupils a variety of different languages next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during Activities week. On Friday, we have Mill Hill International Year 11 pupils coming over to teach the pupils languages and STEM activities, which will be a lovely way to finish the Activities week.

On the subject of foreign languages, our Year 6 pupils have had a wonderful time in France over the last few days and the teachers tell me that they had a wonderful time too. The pupils have been a credit to the school and to their families. Thank you to all the teachers for looking after the children and especially to Mrs McRill for organising the trip.
