Belmont Babies

I am delighted to announce the arrival of three Belmont babies in the last week. Mrs Allen gave birth to Sebastian and we all congratulate Morgane and husband Michael on the arrival of their second little boy. Mr Unwin became the father of twin boys! Congratulations to Chris and partner Abby on the arrival of Elyas and Kofi. We wish them all well and I am sure that Christmas will be a very special time for them all this year.

Winter Wonderland

The run-up to Christmas gathers pace as Belmont is transformed into a Winter Wonderland tomorrow. It promises to be a wonderful (and rain-free) day and I am incredibly grateful for all of the hard work that has gone into getting the school ready by our FOB parent volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event and I look forward to seeing many of you there but in particular to seeing Santa!

Without wanting to sound a little ‘bah humbug’ can I reinforce my message from last week’s bulletin. I’d like to remind parents that they are responsible for their children on the day. There will be many teachers attending but they will not be on duty as they will be with their own families.  One area that we want to ensure is out of bounds is the Adventure Playground so please could you remind your children that they shouldn’t be going on any of the apparatus.  Many thanks for your understanding.

Year 7 House Drama

Wednesday night’s Year 7 House Drama competition was a huge success. The quality of all four performances was astonishing with brilliant music, great acting, side-splitting comedy and genuine moments of sadness. I thought the Year 7 pupils gained a huge amount from the experience and the audience were left in awe at how well the short plays were put together. We had a nostalgic journey back to 90s and 00s television programmes including the Royle Family, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the hilarious teenage Kevin from Harry Enfield and Chums. There was also a tribute to Blackadder including the poignant finale to Blackadder Goes Forth when the soldiers meet their end as they go over the top. There was an original, stylish and creative piece on the pressures of modern family life, reminding us that we need to spend more time together and notice one another. Finally, the winning play was by the Jutes, which was a tribute to the films of Tom Hanks including Forrest Gump, Castaway, Big and Toy Story. Congratulations to all of the pupils involved and thank you to all of the staff for their hard work over the last couple of weeks. It was a triumph!

Theme for the Week

The Theme for the week is about ‘Getting the best out of others’ and the Year 7 house teams, staff and pupils certainly seemed to do that this week.  Mrs Russo delivered a lovely chapel to build on my assembly by talking to the children about the importance of music in films. A significant factor in the success of many films can quite often be the music. Mrs Russo talked about how John Williams’ film scores quite often brought the best out of many films from Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Harry Potter and ET. The children were shown the famous flying bicycle scene from ET first with and then without the music to illustrate the point. My assembly talked about how we can get the best out of ourselves by trying our best, having a positive mindset, being brave and taking risks in our learning. Getting the best out of others requires us to be kind, to notice one another and to listen to and value others’ views.

The slides from the assembly are attached.

Best wishes,

Leon Roberts
