Mrs Armitage borrows my car!

One of my highlights this week was lending my car to Mrs Armitage, the character from Year 1’s central text this half term.

The children in 1TP conducted a labelling exercise of the car – identifying all the different parts of the vehicle, as part of their topic ‘On the Move’, combining literacy with science. I walked back to Grimsdell from a meeting at Mill Hill to discover my car looking like this!

What a fantastic, interactive way to learn and apply one’s skills. I was actually a bit sad to take all the stickers off!

This is a perfect example of active and child centred learning that motivates children and enhances the learning experience. What do you think a child would rather be given? A worksheet with a picture of a car, a pencil and a word bank – or a pack of post it notes, felt tips, a real car and the opportunity to write independently? This is the magical way in to further learning and written work that will stem from this exciting experience.
