Admissions Procedures

For 13+ entry, once registered, candidates are invited to attend interviews and will also need to sit our entrance examinations in Mathematics, English, Science, French and Latin. We would also request a confidential reference from the child’s present school which we use together with the interview and examination results as the basis to decide whether we can offer your child a place or not.

For 14+ entry, once registered, candidates are invited to attend interviews and will also need to sit our entrance examinations in Mathematics, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non Verbal Reasoning. We would also request a confidential reference from the child's present school which we use together with the interview and examination results as the basis to decide whether we can offer your child a place or not. To be reviewed 2010-11.

For 16+ entry, once registered, each applicant is required to come to the School for interviews: one with the Headmaster and one with a Deputy Head. We would also request a confidential reference from the child’s present school which we use together with the interview and predicted GCSE results as the basis to decide whether we can offer your child a place or not. Offers at Mill Hill are conditional on achieving a minimum of 2 A and 3 B grade passes at GCSE (or international equivalent). In addition, each AS subject has its own specific GCSE grade requirements; these are set out in the Sixth Form Curriculum Guide.

Candidates are also required to achieve a minimum C grade in Mathematics and in English (English Language or English Literature) GCSE. These grades may form part of the overall grade requirement. In addition, candidates wishing to study particular subjects at AS/A level will be expected to satisfy the minimum grade requirements specified for those subjects, details of which can be found on the School website in the Sixth Form Curriculum Guide. Exceptions to these requirements may be made, at the Headmaster's discretion, in the light of any exceptional individual circumstances.

For overseas students, in cases where there is some uncertainty over the applicant’s ability, (for example, in the standard of their English) examinations would be taken in English.
