Nicholas Hodgson was born in Guildford and attended The Royal Grammar School there. On leaving school, he went up to Leicester University to study Geography. He began his teaching career in an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive in Northamptonshire and then moved to Chigwell School where, as well as his Geography, he coached football and cricket, became an Assistant Housemaster, Senior Tutor and Head of Careers.
He came to Mill Hill in 1994 as Head of Geography, a position he still holds. In 2000 he gained his MA Geography in Education from the Institute of Education. He has coached cricket throughout his career and became Master i/c Cricket from 2004-2008. He has been a day House Tutor since coming to the School, firstly in McClure House and then in Priestley, serving his apprenticeship under five different Housemasters. He became Housemaster of Murray House in September 2008.
A keen sportsman, Nicholas still plays cricket regularly for The Cryptics, football and tennis for the Old Chigwellians and a variety of other sports, including real tennis, for leisure. He is a qualified FACA football coach and ACUS cricket umpire. In his free time, he enjoys Coronation Street but turns off ‘reality TV’ shows, he enjoys the coasts and fells of Britain but is not averse to a bit of Mediterranean sunshine and he pops into the School gym and pool without ever managing to compensate for previous indulgences. He lists ‘Latin America’ by Alan Gilbert as his favourite book and GCSE Bitesize Geography as his favourite film.
