Simon Hughes has been Housemaster of Weymouth since 2005.
He is a teacher with over 25 years experience in the profession. Following a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University, Simon went on to take his PGCE at Oxford University. He started his teaching career with four years at Cranbrook School in Kent, where he was both a boarding House Tutor and teacher in charge of racket sports. He then moved to Mill Hill School and was appointed as Head of Biology and then Head of Science. Having successfully led the Science department for over ten years, he was appointed as Housemaster of Weymouth House in 2005.
Simon is married and has two sons who have both been educated through Belmont and Mill Hill School. Will is currently studying English with American Studies at the University of Birmingham and Nick has just started a GAP year. Simon is married to Christine who is Head of an English department at another local school. Being both a parent and a teacher has given Simon a very valuable perspective on life at Mill Hill which he is able to use in guiding all Weymouth pupils through a very important phase of their life.
Simon is still interested in many sports and all things scientific. He has a particular academic interest in the ethical aspects of contemporary biological and medical research. Over the years, Simon has also acquired many of Christine's interests in literature and theatre.
