Competitive and recreational sport has always had a special place in the life of pupils at Mill Hill. Sport provides exercise and competition, as well as encouraging team building and leadership skills.
Mill Hill is fortunate in that virtually all sporting activities are provided for on our 120-acre site, with provision being made for all ability levels, from novice to advanced.
The school has a modern sports hall, three new Eton Fives courts, hard tennis courts, netball courts, as well as facilities for rugby, hockey, cricket and football. More recently the school has set up a Golf Academy with our own PGA coach. The majority of sports take place within the School estate.
A £1 million indoor swimming pool development was opened in December 2003.
Many pupils have the opportunity to go on International Sports Tours: recent destinations have included Barbados, Australia, Fiji and South Africa.
This year, for the first time, pupils visited La Manga, Spain, for an intensive week of tennis training. The boys’ rugby team are currently in training for this summer’s tour of New Zealand.
For many years the School has had a proud tradition of producing sportsmen and women at district, county and national level in a variety of sporting disciplines.
In addition to the many and varied team sports, we also offer a full Activities and Games programme. Each year group has a dedicated games afternoon in which the basic skills of the major team sports are taught. As pupils move through the school the options available broaden. Horse riding, yoga, a multi-sports competition, badminton, ultimate Frisbee, street dance and Tae Kwan Do (coached by GB international Nick Symonds) are just some of the opportunities available to pupils at Mill Hill. Both GCSE and A Level PE are offered as part of the curriculum.
