McClure

‘The House aims to create an atmosphere which is both nurturing and positive in its approach with a ‘can do’ attitude.’

McClure House was named after Sir John McClure, Headmaster of the School at the turn of the 20th century. Established in 1971, it is situated in the West wing of the School, near to Atkinson and Murray House. The House prides itself on its home from home environment, offering pastoral care to the highest order and providing pupils with a sense of identity within the School.

McClure has had a great deal of success over the past few years winning many events such as the House Drama, The 10 mile cup and becoming runner-up in the House General Knowledge to name a few. Two pupils in the last three years have gone on to study at Cambridge and, two pupils in the last three years have been appointed Senior Monitors. We are a creative, fun-loving and caring house that offer numerous teambuilding events outside of school during the course of any one year. This year the fourth form and remove went bowling, the upper sixth and lower sixth went to laser quest and the upper sixth and fifth form are due to have their annual black tie dinner. This year saw a change in staffing; Miss Alison Bignell has taken over the helm from Mr Graeme Turner.
