A group of nearly 50 staff and pupils made the annual Fourth Form pilgrimage to the First World War Battlefields of Belgium and France in the last days of the summer term. All the usual sites were visited and the pupils made a particularly good job of completing the Great War work book which was produced especially for this trip.
A unique feature of this trip was the ceremony at Thiepval on the Somme. The names of the 29 Old Millhillians who died in the Battle of the Somme were read out, and then Alex Warna movingly played the Last Post.
This group of Mill Hill historians is particularly looking forward to Professor Gary Sheffield’s lecture on November 8th which is entitled ‘Oh What a Futile War?’.
