Half Term in La Manga

Tennis Team

In February Half Term, Millhillians returned for the second time to La Manga, the world renowned Tennis Training Centre in Spain.

This time 5 girls and 3 boys committed themselves to an intensive week of training on the centre’s Pro Academy Tennis Coaching Course. Pupils were assessed at the beginning of the week and grouped accordingly based on their level of ability.

The programme then commenced in earnest on the Monday and pupils were put through their paces by a team of professional coaches, some English and some Spanish, though many of them had previously played on the professional circuit.

The days consisted of 5 hours of training from 11.00 – 1.00pm and then from 3.00 to 6.00pm giving pupils time to rest, eat and relax when not on court. The programme included technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of the game as well as match play. The sessions were particularly intense and always finished with a gruelling hour of fitness training.

Playing on the slow Spanish clay was a completely new experience for several of the pupils so it took a little while to adjust. However since returning to the UK pupils are now ready to enter the summer term of competition and match play against other schools.
