Mill Hill School are pleased to play host to the John Dankworth Quintet on Thursday 26 June. One of Britain’s best known jazz musicians and composers, Sir John Dankworth continues to be a player of invention and fire. Originally inspired by Benny Goodman, then by altoists Johnny Hodges and Charlie Parker, he got to play with both Goodman and Parker in one year. Voted musician of the year in 1949, this was the first of many awards. He formed his first group in 1950 and has become a father figure in British jazz culminating in 2006 in being the first jazz musician to receive a knighthood.
