Poon Nature Reserve Opened

An exciting opportunity to allow more ecological studies to take place within Belmont’s grounds was unveiled on Saturday 9th May. The Poon Nature Reserve, made possible by a donation from the Poon family, includes a pond and wooded area, is expected to attract a wide range of local flora and fauna as it starts to become established over the next year. Pond dipping will be one of the activities that pupils will enjoy. There is a wooden chalet in the area, which will allow storage of equipment and sweep nets. The art department also expect to use the area for some sketching in the summer months; it will be a place of some interest and eye catching beauty particularly when the range of wild flowers planted start to develop and attract butterflies and other wild life.
