Summer Tour Success

A total of 48 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils including a boy’s rugby team, a girl’s hockey team and a large group of musicians returned last week from a hugely successful tour of South Africa.

Three matches for the rugby and hockey teams against Cape Town schools proved very competitive resulting in two wins for the rugby team and one win for the hockey team. The musicians performed to a packed audience at Wynberg and SACS schools alongside their respective South African pupils. A music workshop also took place at the Langa Township with a cultural mix of performances from both English and South African pupils.

Several trips were included in the 10 day schedule including Table Mountain, Hermanus whale watching, Robben Island, Cape Point and the seal and penguin sanctuaries in Simonstown. All pupils found the trip very rewarding and returned much more aware of the huge diversity in the the social makeup of the South African population and culture.
