Swine ’flu

You will all be aware of the current outbreak of swine ’flu in various countries, including the United Kingdom. Fortunately, no suspected cases have thus far been identified among any of the Foundation’s pupils or staff and we obviously hope that this continues to be the case. The Foundation has, for some time, had a contingency plan in place to allow us to deal with any pandemic outbreak and we are continuing to monitor closely the advice of the Health Protection Agency, Barnet Children’s Services and other bodies in order to ensure that this plan remains fully up to date in the event that its implementation should be required. A letter has been sent to parents and staff in order to ensure that they are aware of the situation and the actions to be taken in the event that they, or any member of their family, begin to show any of the symptoms associated with swine ’flu. Anyone in that position must not come into School but should seek medical advice from their GP or NHS Direct, whilst keeping the School fully informed. In addition, it is important that all children and adults within the Foundation Community adhere closely to the HPA’s advice with regard to personal hygiene, i.e.:

  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible.
  • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.
  • Maintaining good basic hygiene, including washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people.

Within each of the Foundation Schools, measures are being taken to ensure that appropriate regimes of cleaning are in place in order to minimize the threat of infection. Meanwhile, each of the three Schools remains open as normal. Each School’s website will be the primary means by which we will communicate further development to parents, so please do check regularly for updates. Should we need to communicate urgent information, this will be also be done by SMS messaging and email, so please ensure that the School Office has up to date contact details.
