Nearly half of the Fourth Form turned out to see this year’s first Hot Topics presentation.
The motion was “This house believes that Iran has the right to be a nuclear power”.
Speaking for the motion were Ali Saadat and Adnan Rahman. The motion was opposed by Matthew Thal and Sam Chadwick.
The audience were treated to very high levels of debating skills. Particularly passionate was Ali who was a forceful presence on the floor. Matthew and Sam were thoughtful and exceptionally well prepared opponents and Adnan’s somewhat understated style perfectly complemented his team-mates.
There were some excellent questions from the floor and when it came time to vote, the opponents won by the narrowest of margins. This was perhaps the most impressive Hot Topics presentation to date particularly because of the excellent preparation and depth of knowledge displayed by both teams.
