The Junior Maths Challenge is a national competition run by the United Kingdom Mathematical Trust that encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve problems. It is aimed at pupils in years 7 and 8 but we also enter our more able year 6 students at Belmont. The top 40% of students nationally receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3. This year Belmont entered 57 students and 37 students received awards. Miles and Daniel in Year 8 were also invited to take part in the bonus Kangaroo Round on Tuesday 14th June. Congratulations to all those who took part and to everyone who won an award. Particular mention must be given to the large number of Year 6 students (entering a year early) who obtained awards in this prestigious competition.
