Rugby World Magazine Feature for Mill Hill Pupils

Mill Hill Lower Sixth pupils have been working on a community action project in collaboration with Saracen’s Rugby club on Monday evenings which was recently featured in the March edition of the Rugby World magazine (web edition).

The project involves our volunteers working with young adults with Autism as part of the ‘Sarries Skills Club’ and is regularly supported by Saracen’s players to show support for the cause. Mill Hill pupils can be seen in the Chris Ashton video:

The ‘Club has been developed specifically for those who have autism and are recognised as low functioning and at the severe end of the autistic spectrum. The Club focuses around the provision of a positive sporting experience for everyone, with emphasis on a structured and consistent routine on a weekly basis. Participants have the support of at least one volunteer as a minimum, often working in groups with a number of volunteers to facilitate participation. The Senior Sports Development Officer at the Saracens Sports Foundation said “our mantra is to focus on the ability of a person with a disABILITY. This mind set looks to boost confidences and provide greater coping strategies in a moment of need.” This is something that has been achieved through a fantastic and dedicated team of staff and volunteers that recognises the ability of the people who engage in our provision.
