Exciting Times for School Hockey

As we enter the final week of this Half Term it is my pleasure to report that the Hockey teams have had a great start to the season. The junior teams remain unbeaten, as we look forward to this weekend’s block fixture against Bancroft’s School. The U14s have the exciting prospect of a match at the Olympic Park pitch, used during the 2012 Olympics.

Perhaps more significant than these impressive results is the number of pupils choosing to play Hockey. These numbers have remained high, despite the potential pull of Football. The transition of Football in the Spring (Hockey) Term was completed after a two-year consultation process. Although there was overwhelming support for the introduction of Football as a major sport, the School and its stakeholders felt it was crucial to continue our Hockey programme.

On their return from Half Term holidays, the Hockey players will benefit from regeneration works which are being completed over Half Term on the Astro turf, which will help to improve the current playing surface.  To sum up, I am glad to report that under Mr Hendy’s excellent guidance Hockey is well placed to continue to thrive at Mill Hill School.
