Fives & Netball Review

Fives

The last couple of weeks have seen the U10s play against Berkhamsted Prep, and the U13s travel to Eton College for the National Championships. The U10 squad comprised of Jake (5SP) & Max (5SB), Aden (5SP) & Charlie (5SB), Dhruv (5TW) & Jaiveer (5TB) & Louis (5TW). Jake and Max, playing at first pair, did extremely well. They lost the first set 7-12; however, they managed to come back and win the second set 12-11 – a fantastic achievement against one of the strongest Fives schools that we play.

The other two pairs had a great match, learning a lot from it, despite unfortunately losing 2-0. Louis was extremely happy when he won his first points against Berkhamsted – a great personal achievement!

On Monday 5th February the U13 team, consisting of Samuel (8VR), Billy (8JC), Zack (8PN), Noah (8JC) and Alexander (8JC), travelled to Eton College for the National Championships. Alexander was also celebrating his birthday and what a way to do so by playing Fives at the home of the game! The boys had tough groups and therefore did extremely well to all qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

In the first and second knockout rounds, they unfortunately did lose in close matches so both pairs went into the plate B and B2 competition. Samuel and Billy as ‘Belmont 1’ did very well and reached the final of this competition with some impressive volleying from Samuel and fantastic cut returns and dedication from Billy. In the final they had an extremely close match and ended up losing 12-11 to Highgate. The rotating pair of Zack, Alexander, and Noah as ‘Belmont 2’ also made the final of their plate with impressive wins over Aldenham, Ipswich, and Rydal, though also lost in their final.

Netball

The U11s have been busy over the last couple of weeks with lots of fixtures against Bancroft, NLC and Forest Prep. The results have been fantastic and can be viewed on SOCS. Most importantly the girls determination, work rate and desire to better themselves across all teams is fantastic and something to be proud of. A great few weeks from the U11 girls. Well done!
