UKMT Maths Challenge

On Friday 23 March two teams composed of Belmont and Mill Hill students took part in the UKMT Team Maths Challenge at Haberdasher Askes School for Girls. Throughout the four different tasks we performed well getting full marks in the first round and proceeding to do very well in the next.

The rounds consisted of a team question round where our team got 10 questions each to answer. The next round was the cross number which was a crossword with numbers. And now we proceeded to the shuttle, the round which we were dreading, as we did not do as well in this section during the practices. However, with our positive mental attitude, we managed to do exceedingly well. Then came our downfall, the relay. During this round, we had to complete questions and then rush up to the teacher to get it marked. The extreme pressure and time limit led to us falling behind and unfortunately damaged our chances of winning.

Although we had a disappointing round on the relay, we were able to just snatch 5th, with the other Mill Hill team also doing quite well. We did fantastically to come 5th out of the 30 teams competing (the highest the school has ever finished), and whilst we would have liked to have won the competition the day went well and we had lots of fun.
