Ready, Steady, Cook! As part of our Sports Scholarship Programme, the Fourth Form Scholars have been spending Monday afternoons in the professional kitchens at Mill Hill International. During the summer term our Scholars are given sports nutrition lectures from our professional Strength and Conditioning staff and taught how to design recipes which promote optimal sports performance and recovery.
After designing their own recipes, the Scholars were given the challenge of cooking their meal from scratch within 30 minutes. To begin with it is fair to say there were some mixed levels of competence in the kitchen, but each pupil learnt some new and valuable skills. The final results were beyond all of our expectations and included dishes like Seafood Marinara, Poached egg on Avocado Toast, Tuna Steak, Beef Steak, Chicken with Tomato Pasta and Chicken Stir-fry with potato mash.
Next week the pupils will experience their first mystery box challenge, where they will be asked to put the skills they have learnt into practice with a set of ingredients they will not have prepared for. I am sure the final dishes will be just as delicious as this week’s.
