Our learning in Year 2 this week has centered on the text ‘The Pea and the Princess’ by Mini Grey. The book recounts the events from the fairy tale ‘The Princess and the Pea’ by Hans Christian Andersen but from the Pea’s perspective. The children enjoyed learning about how the Royal identity of the princess was to be established by a test of physical sensitivity. They then drew/painted/collaged themselves as a prince/princess and thought carefully about the physical and personal attributes of a prince/princess. This led to persuasive letter writing where the children thought of three reasons and evidence to support their view point, explaining why they should marry the prince/princess. They were encouraged to use a variety of sentence openers and experimented with persuasive writing techniques. Please read and enjoy the examples.
