The Woolf Essay Prize

Two of the English Department’s Lower Sixth pupils have recently submitted entries for The Woolf Essay Prize awarded by Newnham College in the University of Cambridge. Both pupils took it upon themselves independently to research the topic of women in literature and write lengthy essays, allowing them to be fully immersed in writers of personal interest. Sophia Lyndon-Stanford (Weymouth) chose to focus on the status of female writers before 1928 and how they fare now, while Leila Mirza (Cedars) concentrated on whether we are free to decide what is of value in fiction. We wish them all the best as they await the results of the competition.
