This week in Reception…

This week we have been enjoying learning about patterns. We have explored patterns in lots of different ways. For example, we decorated elephants, looked at Rangoli patterns, made Mandalas, created our own necklaces and designed Mehndi.

We have looked further at different animals that live in India, this week we learnt differences between Indian and African Elephants.

Our number of the week was 9. We looked at different representations of 9 using different sized objects and finding out if there was still the correct number or if they thought there was more or less depending on the size. We found out that even if the objects are bigger they are still the same number than smaller objects. When regrouping 9 we were trying to see if we could split the number fairly into two groups and questioned why we couldn’t. We explored this further by looking at the differences in the Numicon shapes.
