Jeff Norton Author Visit

On Thursday morning Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were lucky enough to enjoy their first author visit this year, from award-winning author, producer and Belmont parent Jeff Norton. Jeff was here to talk about his newest book, Alienated: Grounded at Groom Lake and shared some of the story, his character building and his writing processes with us. The story follows Sherman Capote, a boy whose attempt to honour his mother’s memory causes his whole family to be forcibly relocated to Area 51, where he discovers things are not quite as they seem at his new high school….

Jeff also took us back through his own reading journey, from a reluctant reader to a passionate and avid devourer of books. Both sessions were interactive, informative and hugely funny – a huge thank you to Jeff for taking time not only to chat to us, but also for signing books to excited Belmontians after his talks.

“I thought the author visit was really good. The book was cool with the rocket ships and including the base!” – Harry Shields (4LG)

“I thought it was so fun when Caden’s dad came to visit! My favourite part  was when he told us his favourite books when he was little.” Lucy Donald (4AD)

“I loved that when he was younger he was a reluctant reader, but then he loved reading – I LOVED his story!” – Rohan Melzer (4RA)

“The author visit was very interesting. It was nice to see how an author writes and plans.” Mary Kavadas (4AD)

“Jeff’s visit was really funny and he is the funniest guy I know!” – Angus Rankin (4NC)

“The reason I liked the author visit is because I’m now inspired to write!” – Oscar Gradel (3EP)

For those who missed out, or who were inspired by Jeff’s own favourite reads, his books plus some of those mentioned in the talk are available to borrow from the Library.

See you there and happy reading!
