5/10 Mile Cup

Tuesday saw one of Mill HIll’s ‘special’ days, as our pupils enjoyed competing and supporting their houses in the 5/10 Mile Cup. The day, which is essentially a cross country relay, sees our houses battle it out for house pride and course records. In the build up to the main event the pupils enjoyed tucking into bake sale items (which were raising money for our overseas partnerships) whilst listening to our marvellous jazz band perform. They were then treated to the first ever mascot race (won by the Weymouth Moose) before performing a whole school warm up.

Ultimately, it was a case of deja-vu for the main event, as the Murray girls retained their crown as winners of the girl’s race and Atkinson won the boys race. This is a continuation of an amazing run in the competition for the Atkinson boys who have had seven victories in the past eight years. They also achieved a burning ambition of breaking the one hour barrier, clocking a time of 59 minutes and 58 seconds. Finally, a special mention goes to the three guest sides. The male and female staff teams ran fantastically but the show was stolen by the Belmont team, who were competing in the event for the very first time. They were truly impressive and their inclusion in the event provided an excellent opportunity for Mr Bingham (Housemaster of Atkinson) to scout some talent to ensure his dominance continues for years to come!
