On Thursday 14 March, we took four pairs of year 6 pupils to Eton College for the final Fives national championships for Belmont. Following very successful competitions for the U12 & U13 boys and girls, the pressure was on the U11s to match the success. They did not disappoint! All the pupils had a fantastic day with great improvement from playing so many matches in the day. 3 out of the 4 pairs qualified from the group stages in strong positions. Jake 6RB and Max 6PF went on to win this first knockout match to reach the last 16. They came up against a strong Ludgrove pair which proved to be an exceptional match with some very high quality fives which was full of emotions from both players and spectators. Fortunately, Belmont were victorious 2-1. Unfortunately they didn’t quite have the energy left to repeat this performance in the quarterfinals where they lost to Berkhamsted. Samuel 6RB and Dhruv 6JN did very well to reach the semi-final of plate A before losing in another very close match.
Well done to all those that attended the Nationals this year!
