This week in Nursery…

Wow what a busy and fun first week of half term we have had. We took full advantage of the lovely weather and enjoyed making kites, blowing bubbles and exploring with water.

On Monday we looked at syllables and the children clapped out how many syllables were in their name. Knowledge of syllables is another important part of phase 1 phonics and it will support the children to break down words into more manageable steps to support spelling later on in literacy.

From this week we have started to do funky fingers and dough gym activities, these will take place on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Funky Fingers is a series of fun activities for children to build up their upper body strength (gross motor skills) and finger/hand strength and control (fine motor skills). The children have been really enjoying these activities.

The children learnt the action and song for the sound ‘i’ and used ink to decorate their sound card.

The children have enjoyed the role play area being transformed into a vets. They have helped take care of all the animals and became quite curious about what vets do to look after our pets.

On Wednesday we looked at shapes and joined them together to make our very own shape pets.

On Thursday we looked at the number 5 in more depth. We talked about how we can move 5 animals in different ways however the number will stay the same.

Today the children loved their first forest school session. They learnt about the forest schools rules including the fire circle and the game 1,2,3 where are you!!
