This week in Year 1 we have had a book-tastic week!
We’ve focused on the book ‘On Sudden Hill’ by Linda Sarah and Benji Davies. The story follows three boys who play with a box and use their imagination to have wonderful adventures. They also have to overcome friendship issues. We made comparisons and applied these issues to our own friendships, dealing with jealousy and being open to new relationships. It was a lovely opportunity to stretch our imagination and write about the not-a-box sitting in our classroom. We found we had a magical unicorn cave, a glowing space rocket or an old fashioned train carriage. It was inspiring to see just how far they could take the not-a-box.
We also learnt about contractions and how they are used in a sentence. We brought our favourite book in to share with our friends and write a book review on.
In Maths we have been focusing on our number bonds to 20 and how to use our number bonds to 10 to support the method. We looked at equal values with our number bonds to 20 and created 2 and 3 cube towers to represent these.
